 An
integral element of who Mario is and the brand he has created
is giving back to the community and those in need. Since
2003, Mario has been a vital part of the Food Bank, serving
on its board and participating in numerous hunger awareness
campaigns.
The Food Bank helps provide the food for approximately
250,000 free meals served each day to the women and children,
the elderly, people with disabilities and the working poor
who turn to the Food Bank for emergency and community food
programs for help.
The mission of the Food Bank For New York City is to end
hunger by organizing food, information and support for community
survival and dignity.
Today, the Food Bank For New York City is one of the largest
food banks in the country and a leading distributor of free
fresh produce. We are also the only food bank serving all of
New York City. To date we have collected, warehoused and distributed
more than 744 million pounds of food for the city's needy.
In addition to providing food, the Food Bank offers agencies
ongoing support, services and education. We regularly conduct
nutrition and food safety education workshops and networking
sessions and provide a variety of tools and publications to
enable our network to strengthen its programs.
Teamwork is our motto. It is through everyone's combined efforts
and unbridled commitment and care in improving the well-being
of New York City's poor that the Food Bank has been able to
move toward our goal of ending hunger in the city once and
for all.
